Radius measurement in binary stars: simulations of intensity interferometry

چکیده
Mass and radius measurements of stars are important inputs for models stellar structure. Binary particular interest in this regard, because astrometry spectroscopy a binary together provide the masses both as well distance to system, while interferometry can improve measure radii stars. In work we simulate parameter recovery from intensity interferometry, especially challenge disentangling two their combined interferometric signal. Two approaches considered: separation visibility contributions each star with help differing brightness ratios at different wavelengths, direct fitting correlation multi-parameter model. Full image reconstructions is not attempted. Measurement angular radii, first-order limb-darkening appears readily achievable bright current instrumentation.

Measuring Close Binary Stars with Speckle Interferometry
Speckle interferometry (Labeyrie, 1970) is a well-tested and still used method for detecting and measuring binary stars that are closer together than the width of the atmospheric seeing disk. In this method, an average spatial power spectrum is computed from a series of short-exposure images. The power spectrum exhibits clearly defined cosine fringes, while the autocorrelation function (its Fou...
متن کاملMeasurement of Bunch Length Using Intensity Interferometry
Abstract Intensity interferometry is one of the most conventional methods for measuring the length of a short light pulse (from ps to sub-ps). We attempted to apply this method to the measurement of bunch length at the Photon Factory. We tested both the second-harmonic autocorrelation method and the two-photon interference method. With both methods, we observed the autocorrelation signal of the...
متن کاملInteractions in massive binary stars as seen by interferometry
With the advent of large-collecting-area instruments, the number of objects that can be reached by optical long-baseline interferometry is steadily increasing. We present here a few results on massive binary stars, showing the interest of using this technique for studying the insight of interactions in these systems. Indeed, many massive stars with extended environments host, or are suspected t...
متن کاملMeasurement of x-ray pulse widths by intensity interferometry.
The pulse width of hard undulator radiation (32 ps width, energy 14 keV) was determined by intensity interferometry. The method, in combination with various x-ray monochromators, enables measurements to be taken over a wide range of time frames, from ns to fs. The applicable target includes measurements of ultrafast x-ray pulse widths from fourth generation synchrotron light sources.
متن کامل3D General Relativistic Simulations of Coalescing Binary Neutron Stars
We develop a 3 dimensional computer code to study a coalescing neutron star binary. The code can currently follow the evolution up to two stars begin to merge from two spherical stars of mass 1M⊙ and radius 8.9km with separation 35.4km. As for coordinate conditions, we use conformal slicing and pseudo-minimal distortion conditions. The evolution equations for the metric is integrated using the ...
